In Women's Health | November 1, 2023

Meet the Founder: Makeena + Jobs this week from ByHeart, Mira, Carrot Fertility, Babyscripts and more!

What I love about Women’s Health is the same thing I love about South Africa winning the world cup in rugby last weekend — a “rising tide lifts all boats” mentality.

In South Africa there are 12 national languages, and a ripe historical racial history. It’s one of the most socially, culturally and politically fractured places I’ve ever lived. But over the last three weekends, a group of 23 men from 23 backgrounds came together to win the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals each by 1 POINT — and united a country of 60 million in the process. It’s hard to describe how special it was to be here to see people from completely different backgrounds, socio-economic statuses and languages come together — cheering, hugging, crying, celebrating and loving each other as humans. See for yourself.

From the minute I started a company in women’s health, I’ve only ever found the industry to be the same way. In other industries secrets are kept, and turf is protected. But in women’s health, even if there is a competitive element of businesses, founders recognize the need for co-opeitition. Because ultimately, the more interest, investment, research and attention that women’s health attracts - we realize it’s better for all of us.

It’s also what I love about the In Women’s Health community we are building. We have over 100+ members in just our first 2 weeks. Although people may be interviewing at the same companies or interested in the same roles, our community members realize that it’s better for us all to work together. We have community members doing resume reviews for others, suggesting recruiters to follow and sharing their interview experiences for others to learn from.

  • This week we:

    • Matched 44 members to jobs on our jobs board with our AI-based talent matching tool

    • Had 1 member get a new job and multiple members in final interviews

    • Posted over 100+ new jobs on our job board

    • Reviewed 5 resumes as a community

    • Helped 78 people set up email job alerts

This is why I passionately believe that all of us will succeed in solving the hardest problems for women.
