The Old Playbook Is Dead: Resumés Fade, Visibility Wins. Are You Ready to Be Found?

When CNBC reported that OpenAI is building a jobs platform to rival LinkedIn, it underscored what we’ve been talking about all year in the Women’s Health Career Mastermind: algorithms are reshaping how people get jobs.

I had some time on a flight to LA this week to think about what that really means for us — how to cut through all the noise about AI and recruiting and turn it into something practical. By the time we landed, I had sketched out a way to explain this shift simply. But before I get there, let’s talk about what’s changing.

For decades, the playbook was clear: polish your résumé, write a cover letter, keep LinkedIn up to date, and lean on your network. That’s no longer enough. Today, your ability to be found by an algorithm is what matters most.

Recruiters now rely on AI to scan résumés, parse profiles, and rank candidates long before a human being ever sees an application. And the next generation of platforms won’t even wait for you to apply — they’ll go out and find you, or overlook you, depending on the digital trail you’ve left behind.

How AI Hiring Actually Works

Think about how you use ChatGPT. You type a question, and it doesn’t magically “know” the answer — it searches across patterns in vast datasets to generate a response. Recruiter AI works the same way. Instead of reading résumés one by one, it scrapes signals from LinkedIn profiles, résumé databases, PubMed, conference bios, press mentions, and even podcasts.

Then it ranks candidates and pushes the “top matches” to a recruiter’s dashboard. If your signals are thin, outdated, or inconsistent, you may never be seen.

This is why visibility matters: AI can’t amplify what it can’t find.

The Rise of AI Agents

Soon, the first phase of hiring will be handled by two AI agents. One — the recruiter’s assistant — and one — the jobseeker’s copilot. They’ll meet, exchange information, and the recruiter’s agent will decide if you move forward to a human conversation.

Recruiter agents are already here. LinkedIn has launched its AI hiring assistant, Workday has rolled out a Recruiter Agent, and Torre.ai is building full candidate “genomes.” Even Chipotle is using an AI recruiter — nicknamed “Ava Cado” — that chats with applicants, answers questions, and schedules interviews, cutting hiring time from 12 days to just 3.

What’s less clear — but coming fast — are the jobseeker agents. Imagine an AI copilot working on your behalf 24/7: scanning postings, tailoring applications, negotiating salary ranges, and flagging opportunities. These tools are emerging quickly and will soon be part of how careers get managed.

So what does this all mean for you? On that flight, this was the question I kept circling. If recruiters are leaning on algorithms and jobseeker agents are on the horizon, where does that leave us? The answer I came to is simple: the balance of power is shifting away from applications and toward algorithms. And in that shift, one factor matters most — whether you’re visible enough to be found.

Visibility Is the New Job Security

This is where I see the most resistance in our Mastermind groups. People say, “I don’t want to brag.” Or, “I don’t have time to post.” Or, “What if my company sees?”

I get it. Healthcare has long rewarded humility and quiet execution. But algorithms don’t reward humility — they reward signals.

As career strategist JT O’Donnell says: “Your career isn’t a résumé, it’s a reputation.” And reputations today are built in public. Visibility isn’t vanity. It’s survival.

And visibility doesn’t mean betraying confidentiality. You should never share sensitive details about patients, strategy, or your employer. But you can share:

  • Generalized lessons from your work (“What I’ve learned about scaling Medicaid reimbursement programs…”).

  • Frameworks and approaches that are transferable (“3 things that make payer conversations go smoother”).

  • Industry reflections (“Why maternal health reimbursement is still so hard — and what’s giving me hope”).

You don’t need to reveal secrets to be visible. You need to show your thinking, your expertise, and your perspective — the things only you can bring.

The FOUND Framework™

So here’s what I landed on during that flight to LA: the FOUND Framework™.

It’s five simple steps to help you future-proof your women’s health career in the AI era:

F — Find your baseline
Google yourself. What appears on page one? This is your reality check: if you can’t clearly see your expertise online, neither can a recruiter — or their AI.

O — Own your story
Make your expertise clear and consistent everywhere. Don’t just list titles — highlight outcomes and impact. Use the same short bio across résumés, LinkedIn, and speaker pages. This is your foundation. (We also work a LOT on this in the Mastermind)

U — Update your signals regularly
Keep things fresh. We talk about this in our workshop How to Use LinkedIn to Get a Job in Women’s Health. Ideally you are posting every day. Yes. Don’t panic. This is your signal boost: every update is a “ping” that tells the system you’re relevant now, not just years ago. It also leaves breadcrumbs for you to

N — Network in public
Share your work where others can see it. If you speak at events, join a panel, write a LinkedIn post or even give a presentation at work, make sure you leave a digital trail. These are proof points: public evidence that validates your expertise.

D — Distribute with intent
Don’t rely on one platform. LinkedIn matters, but so do conference bios, press mentions, podcasts, and articles. This is your reach strategy: make sure your story shows up in both high-volume places (LinkedIn, Indeed) and high-quality authority nodes (top-tier press is best). Algorithms weigh credibility, so quality breadcrumbs matter as much as quantity.

Breathe. A Closing Pep Talk.

If this feels overwhelming, take a breath. You don’t need to become an influencer. You don’t need to post every day (but it will help). You simply need a mindshift: your career impact is already real — now it’s about making sure the world (and the algorithms) can see it.

You have brilliance to share. You have impact to document. FOUND is just a framework to help you turn that into a visible, discoverable story.

The old playbook is dead. Resumés fade, visibility wins. And you don’t need to be louder — you just need to be FOUND.

A New Stealth Network: Why Leaders Are Stepping In Early

Everywhere I go, I hear the same refrain: women’s health has never had what it deserves. A united front. A powerhouse. A platform with staying power — one that brings together funding, research, advocacy, and policy muscle to create systemic change. So 300+ women’s health execs are building it.

Leaders across the field are already signing on. One put it this way:

“Wow. I love this for so many reasons. Just spent a little time on your website and I have chills. This is the smartest women’s health effort I think I have ever seen. Kudos to you and the entire team.” — Lesley Solomon, Founder & CEO, Veda Trials

This leader has spent decades in women’s health — and told me they’d never seen something with this kind of potential. The cross-sector team behind this platform includes policy experts, researchers, clinicians, investors, and movement builders. Together, they’re laying the foundations we’ve always needed.

Here’s the truth: real change takes more than ideas. It takes checks big enough to move candidates, fund policy, and put women’s health on the legislative agenda.
