How to Win Conference Season (Even Without a Ticket)
Welcome to conference season! I’m in Week 3 of a six-week travel sprint — it’s never-ending, but energizing.
I love conferences. They’re the fastest way to catch up with a lot of people all in one place — and the fastest way to build your network in women’s health.
But there’s a secret most people won’t tell you. Most of the time, you don’t actually need a ticket.
When I was first transitioning into women’s health from luxury hospitality and media, I primarily used conferences to build my network. It takes hustle, it takes rejection, and it takes putting yourself in a room where you might not know anyone or feel comfortable — but that’s exactly what it takes to get a role in women’s health right now.
I can think of three people who have secured roles in women’s health this year primarily because they found a way to put themselves in the room:
Ariel Zuckerman - Volunteered to work the door at the Women’s Health Reimbursement Summit where she met the CEO of Pacify. Then she emailed the SIS Conference (Now Women’s Health Week) to do the same. She’s currently a Partnership Success Manager at Pacify.
Divya Patel - Also reached out to the SiS Conference to volunteer. She was able to meet hundreds of execs as they checked in and even snuck away for a coffee with her now product team lead at Evvy.
Dr. Echi Anoruo - Knew she wanted to do more outside of being a practicing OBGYN day-to-day. She flew across the country to the SiS conference, not knowing anyone. She happened to be standing in a group of women, including me, who all ended up at dinner together. She’s now our fractional Founding Chief Medical Officer of the new stealth company we are building.
There are two big conference seasons in women’s health: March–May and October.
There are a few that happen outside those windows, but most cluster here.
Here’s where you’ll find me this fall:
Planning ahead to 2026? In addition to the ones above, here’s what’s on my radar:
What conferences did we forget? What are some of your favorites? Where will you be? Hit reply and let me know — we’ll continue to compile them on our In Women’s Health Slack Channel.
Earlier this summer, I did a session on How to Build Your Women’s Health Network at Conferences. Take a listen and walk away with tips, tricks, and insider knowledge on how to use conference season to build your network.
Here are a few things to know:
Before the Conference
Look at who’s speaking and make a list of 15 companies you want to connect with. If someone from that list is speaking, reach out and ask to meet up. No ticket? Suggest coffee in the lobby or across the street.
Use the conference as a reason to reach out to founders and hiring managers — even if you can’t go, it’s an opening for dialogue.
Create a Google Sheet or calendar with the panels you want to attend to help you plan conversations.
Create a Calendly link (15–30 minutes) so people can easily schedule time with you.
Keep an ear out for non-conference events — that’s often where real networking happens. At JPM last year, there were 23 women’s health events around the main conference. I share these with our IWH Pro members regularly.
At the Conference
Attend as many events and panels as you can.
Take pictures — people love conference recaps and real-time stories.
Go to bed early. Conference weeks are marathons, not sprints.
Pack a portable charger, comfortable shoes, and a jacket (conference rooms are freezing).
Move your body — I always feel better hustling all day once my cup is full.
Take notes in your phone and summarize daily — it’ll make social posts easier. Sometimes I record panels and use ChatGPT to summarize them.
Take photos of badges as reminders to follow up later.
Be open to serendipity — some of my best connections came from casual bar chats or spontaneous dinners.
Try to do your follow-up each day so you’re not overwhelmed later (I’m still working on this one).
After the Conference
Don’t book meetings or calls the next day. Use the time to actually do the follow-up.
Add everyone you met on LinkedIn and send a quick personal note.
If you spoke, share your main takeaways publicly — it helps you and the field.
Conference season can feel chaotic — but it’s also where careers, collaborations, and ideas accelerate. Whether you have a badge or not, show up. Say hello. Start the conversation. Use the miles to get you there. Take the train. Drive. Share hotel rooms. Stay with friends on their couch.
Because to get on a team in women’s health, you have to be creative about how you get yourself in the game.
Let me know where you will be this Fall. I’d love to say “HI” and keep an eye out for IWH meet-ups at many of the conferences listed above.

We’re looking for a Data Analytics Specialist
Be part of a first-of-its-kind movement in women’s health.
The Women’s Health PAC is changing how data, policy, and political power come together to shape the future of women’s health. We’re seeking a Data Analytics Specialist to help turn information into influence — transforming complex data into insights that drive advocacy, shape campaigns, and move decision-makers.
If you’ve ever wanted your analytical skills to actually make a difference — to be part of something bold, new, and built for impact — this is your chance to help define the future of women’s health policy.
Position Summary:
We are looking for a part-time Data Analytics Specialist with a strong proficiency in Excel. Knowledge of additional data analysis platforms, such as R or Tableau, is preferred. In this role, you will analyze research data and public datasets—including CDC health data and information on congressional members—to identify trends, inform strategies, and provide context for decision-making. The ideal candidate will be comfortable synthesizing large datasets into clear, actionable insights, creating visualizations or dashboards to communicate findings, and working independently in a flexible, remote environment. This is a great opportunity to contribute to women’s health advocacy while applying your data analytics expertise in a meaningful way.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in Excel (required).
Knowledge of additional data analysis platforms, such as R or Tableau (preferred).
Experience interpreting public health or policy-related data is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage flexible hours.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
Hours: 10–15 hours per week, potential to adjust hours based on project needs
