Landing Your Dream Job in Women’s Health: A New Way to Think About Career Change

When we think about finding a new job, especially in a new industry like women’s health, we often focus on the tactical steps: applications, resumes, LinkedIn updates.

But real career change — the kind that leads to work you love — asks for something deeper.
It asks for a shift not just in what you do, but in how you see yourself.

This week we hosted a session with Jodi and her Executive Coach, Taren Sterry. In this session, with 120+ people we explored a different approach: one rooted in identity, clarity, and possibility — not just action. Whether you were there or not, these lessons can help anyone navigating a transition into women’s health.

Here are a few key ideas we covered, and how you can start applying them to your own journey:

Imposter Syndrome: When you’re pivoting industries, doubt is normal. It’s not a sign you’re failing — it’s a sign you’re growing.
Instead of fixing it, get curious: Who do I believe I need to be in order to belong here?

👉 Try this: In your next cover letter, lead with who you are and what you care about — not just where you’ve worked.

Dream → Build → Do: Many career changers get stuck by asking “how” too soon. First, dream.
Build clarity by imagining what you want, before you start building resumes or applications.

👉 Try this: Spend 20 minutes journaling: If anything were possible (with no constraints), what would I be doing in women’s health two years from now?

Thinking → Feeling → Being → Doing: Your thoughts shape your feelings, which shape your actions. If your search feels heavy or misaligned, check upstream: what are you thinking and feeling?

👉 Try this: Before you send an application, ask yourself: Who do I want to be in this process today?

Grief & Completion: Letting go of a past career can feel messy — even if you’re excited about what’s next.
Honor what you’re leaving behind so you can fully step into what’s ahead.

👉 Try this: Write a letter to your old career. Thank it. Release it. Make space for your next chapter.

Resilience: Rejection doesn’t mean you’re not qualified. It just means the fit wasn’t right yet.
Resilience is reconnecting with why you’re doing this.

👉 Try this: Write down your anchor: “I’m building a career in women’s health because ______.”
Post it somewhere you’ll see every day.

The Dreaded “How”: The logistics ("how will I afford this?", "how will I find the right role?") are real. But if they show up too soon, they can block your bigger vision.

👉 Try this: Give yourself one full day where you don’t have to figure it all out. Let yourself dream instead.

Survival Mechanisms vs. Essence: If you’ve ever been told you're "too much," or tried to over-edit yourself to fit in, you’re not alone.
The truth? Your essence — the real you — is your greatest asset in women’s health.

👉 Try this: Name three qualities that are core to you. Then ask: Where am I hiding these in my job search? Where can I let them shine?

Final Words:

Career change is hard.
Doing the inner work alongside the outer work? Even harder.

But if you’re feeling uncertain, that’s not a problem — it’s a sign you’re doing real, brave work.

You’re not doing it wrong.
And you’re definitely not doing it alone.

At In Women’s Health, we’re building the ecosystem alongside you — so the future of women’s health reflects the depth, truth, and talent you’re bringing to it.

This isn’t just a job search.
It’s a shift in who you’re becoming — and what’s possible because of it.

Your essence isn’t a liability. It’s your leverage.
Your story isn’t too much. It’s your greatest asset.

So keep going. Keep becoming.
We’ve got your back.

🎓 Reimbursement 101: What Every Women’s Health Leader Needs to Know

We’ll walk you through:

  • What an RVU is (and how it determines clinician pay)

  • What the RUC Committee is and why it matters

  • How CMS sets the tone for what gets covered across the system

  • Why understanding reimbursement is a career accelerator—and a business essential—in women’s health

If you’ve taken our Mini-MBA or seen me speak this year, you know this is my soapbox. Because we can’t scale women’s health until we fix the incentives that hold it back.

This is the conversation behind every business model, every investment, and every care decision. Come learn the system—so you can help us change it.

🎓 Students Are Powering the Future of Women’s Health

Across campuses, students are turning women’s health into a serious career path. What began as a side interest is now a movement, with student clubs, events, and Slack channels focused on real-world impact. Business, tech, policy, and science students alike are pursuing roles as founders, investors, and innovators—proving that women’s health isn’t just a niche, it’s a destination.

From Curiosity to Career-Building
At top schools like Harvard, Stanford, and Duke, formal women’s health groups and FemTech projects are on the rise. Students are launching summits, building startups, and organizing networks that didn’t exist just a few years ago. Universities are taking note, responding with resources and support as students demand structure for a field they’re helping shape.

A New Kind of Leader
Duke MBA student, Kelsey Worsham saw the gap—and built a solution. Her MBA FemTech Exchange now connects 250+ students and grads sharing jobs, ideas, and support. Her story reflects a larger trend: students aren’t waiting to join the women’s health industry—they’re creating it.
