🚀 Building the Next Generation of Women’s Health Leaders Starts Here
Internships matter—here’s how you can be part of the solution.

In today’s tight hiring market, women’s health companies need smart, motivated support—and students need hands-on experience to launch their careers. But finding and offering internships in this space is still harder than it should be.

We’re fixing that.

We’re creating a centralized, searchable database of internships in women’s health—so undergrad, MBA, and PhD students can find meaningful opportunities, and companies can connect with mission-aligned talent.

Whether you're a student eager to break into the field or a company looking for an extra set of hands, this is your chance to plug into something bigger.

đź”— Students – Want to intern in women’s health?

đź‘€ Coming soon: You'll be able to easily search and filter candidates and internship opportunities across the women’s health space—from early-stage startups to nonprofits and research orgs.

Why This Matters

Internships aren’t just resume-builders—they're a launchpad for the next generation of researchers, founders, policymakers, and operators in women’s health.

Paid internships help create equitable access to careers. Thoughtfully designed unpaid or stipend-based roles give early-stage companies and nonprofits the support they need, while giving students critical exposure and experience.

👋 Founders: Never Hosted an Intern Before? Here’s How to Start.

You don’t need a formal program or HR department to make this work. Interns are most successful when assigned to a clear, time-bound project.

✨ Ask yourself: What project do you need to have finished by August?

  • A market landscape slide deck?

  • Competitor benchmarking?

  • Customer interviews?

  • A social media or content refresh?

  • Policy research to inform your next pitch deck?

Interns can help you move faster. You get an extra set of hands—they get real experience. Win-win.

Here are a few simple tips:

  • Scope the work in advance (4–12 weeks, part-time or full-time)

  • Assign a point person for check-ins and feedback

  • Make it project-based, not task-based

  • Consider offering a stipend or course credit, if possible

You’ll be surprised at how much progress a smart, motivated intern can drive in just a few weeks.

This effort is led by Kelsey Worsham, who’s built a growing network of undergrad, MBA, and PhD students ready to contribute to the future of women’s health.

The more companies and candidates who participate, the stronger this ecosystem becomes. Let’s invest in the future—together.

Dr. Karla Loken on Fixing Women's Health Reimbursement: What You Need to Know

Last week’s In Women’s Health Mini-MBA session featured an insightful discussion led by Dr. Karla Loken, an experienced OB-GYN and healthcare strategist. The conversation provided an in-depth look at the challenges and opportunities in women's healthcare delivery, particularly focusing on reimbursement, provider compensation, and systemic inefficiencies.

Key Takeaways from the Session

  1. Reimbursement Drives Care Decisions – The way providers are paid significantly influences the type and quality of care women receive.

  2. RVUs Shape Provider Compensation – Relative Value Units (RVUs) determine how much providers are reimbursed, but they often do not fairly compensate for complex women’s health procedures.

  3. The Financial Reality of Running a Women's Health Practice – Many OB-GYNs operate on razor-thin margins due to reimbursement challenges, making financial sustainability a top concern.

  4. Systemic Barriers Hinder Innovation – New treatments and services in menopause, endometriosis, and maternal health struggle with reimbursement and policy roadblocks.

  5. Clearinghouses and Insurance Processes Slow Down Payments – Providers must navigate a complex chain of claims processing, which can lead to financial strain.

  6. CMS Policies Set the Standard – Medicare reimbursement rates influence private insurance payments, impacting how much providers get paid across the board.

  7. RVU-Based Compensation is Flawed – Many hospital-employed physicians are paid based on RVUs, but the system does not always align with patient-centered care.

  8. The Budget Neutrality Rule Limits Change – The rule requires any increase in reimbursement for one specialty to be offset by cuts elsewhere, making it difficult to improve women's health reimbursement.

  9. Advocacy is Essential for Policy Change – Engaging with policymakers and industry leaders is necessary to reform reimbursement structures and support fair compensation for women's health services.

  10. Collaboration Across Stakeholders is Key – Clinicians, payers, policymakers, and innovators must work together to create sustainable solutions that improve access and affordability in women’s health.

Dr. Loken’s insights highlighted the complexities of the current system and the urgent need for reform. By understanding these challenges, healthcare professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs can work toward a more equitable and effective healthcare system for women.
