Your Passion for Women’s Health Isn’t Enough To Get A Job — Here’s How You Have to Talk About It

I see it all the time.

People who care deeply about women’s health.
They’ve had a personal experience — maybe a birth story, a fertility journey, or a family member who was dismissed or misdiagnosed.

They’re ready to pivot their career.
They want to make an impact.
They write a cover letter full of passion.
And then…

Crickets.

Here’s the hard truth:
Your passion is the starting point — not the thing that gets you hired.

If you want to work in women’s health, you need to connect your story to your skills.

And then connect both to how you move the bottom line.

Because companies in this space are still companies.
They need marketers who can drive growth.
Operators who can scale processes.
Clinicians who understand product.
PMs who can get features out the door.

At the end of the day, women’s health companies have to make money. And your job is to show them how you do that.

Take this example:

If you’ve had a fertility journey, you’ve likely developed serious operational chops — but unless you spell that out, employers won’t connect the dots.

Instead of saying “I’ve been through IVF,” you could say:

“Managed 7 IVF rounds, 100+ injections, coordinated 3 insurance companies, 4 providers, 20+ appointments and 2 clinics — all while working full-time.”

That’s not just a story — that’s a strategic asset.

Then how can you further connect this to your ability to drive the top or bottom line for a company?

These are the kinds of insights I was sharing 1:1, week after week.

In DMs. In networking calls. In educational sessions online. But that wasn’t efficient.

In January, I brought 15 people together into a small group.

We called it the Women’s Health Career Mastermind.

Over four weeks, we worked together to rebuild their materials, refine their strategy, and help them get traction — fast.

I’ve decided to pull together another group in April, and we start on Monday.

IWH Success Story: How the January Mastermind Opened Doors for Ariel Zuckerman

Ariel Zuckerman has built a successful 10+ year career in client success and business development. After facing challenges during her own birth and postpartum journey, she felt compelled to create better support systems for women, which led her to transition into women's health. She joined Boober, where she developed the sales and client success infrastructure, helping connect families with expert care. After three years at Boober, Ariel is now eager to expand her impact by focusing on maternal and mental healthcare on a larger scale, blending her business acumen with her clinical insights. That’s when she found IWH and the 10-Step Mastermind, a program that gave her the tools, strategy, and confidence to transition into a bigger role in women’s health.

To date, IWH Mastermind program has helped Ariel land 5 interviews at women's health start-ups and women’s health unicorns, like Maven.

Ariel shared her big takeaways from the Mastermind with us and what helped her stand out from other candidates:

"The biggest aha moment for me was mastering AI screenings—something I didn’t even realize was a hurdle. With Jodi’s guidance, I optimized my resume and LinkedIn profile so I could get through applicant tracking systems and land interviews, even without direct connections. This completely changed how I approached my job search and made me feel more in control of the process.

Beyond the job search strategies, what really made a difference was the community. I didn’t feel alone anymore. I connected with so many incredible women who were also navigating their careers in this space, and we supported each other every step of the way. Jodi opened doors I wouldn’t have known existed, from networking events to key industry connections. I gained confidence, refined my pitch, and finally felt like I belonged in this industry at a bigger level."

Now, Ariel is focused on driving both clinical and business success in maternal health. With her expertise in sales, strategic growth, and patient-centered advocacy, she is uniquely positioned to help women’s health companies expand access to maternal mental health services, lactation support, and preventative care—ensuring no one has to pay out of pocket to give birth and receive postpartum and mental health services. Her journey is proof that investing in yourself and the right community can accelerate your career and create lasting impact.

Congratulations, Ariel! 👏 And thank you for sharing your story with us.
